I recently completed the 21-day-plan which I was supposed to do with my wife. I bought all the groceries for the first week and the next day my wife was hospitalized. I decided to continue with the plan even though my wife ended up being in the hospital for two-and-a-half weeks (she is now fine). After the 21 days I had lost about 15 pounds and felt great. I was hoping to gain energy but had no idea that I would lose all that weight also and that was very rewarding for me. I dealt very well with the stress of my wife being in the hospital and taking care of my two-year-old son on my own and I have to think the plan really helped with that. I was not hungry and loved how healthy I felt. I continued for the next two weeks with menus from Eat, Drink and Weigh Less, another excellent resource by a Harvard Medical School nutrition expert - Walter Willett, which includes similar nutrition guidelines (with some differences regarding caffeine, alcohol and wheat products).
I am a neuropsychologist, trained in research methodology and notice most diet books are not based on science and can be less than credible. I liked the fact that the Source included the latest research across many interesting areas of nutrition research that I had some awareness of including disease preventive compounds in foods, negative physiological effects of glycation, inflammatory foods, and oxidation, the benefits of whole grain foods and healthy fats, fruits and vegetables, nuts, probiotics, prebiotics etc., all in one place. The meals were delicious and I enjoyed making them. My only complaint is that the book really needs a shopping list, as it was a huge project digging through the recipes to write out the grocery list, especially the first week. However, the 21-day plan worked tremendously and I think it was worth the trouble. If you do not have a Whole Foods or other health food store close by you will have a difficult time finding some of the ingredients (e.g., gamasio, probiotic powder, flax seed oil, brown rice vinegar, wheat-free bread). I am a believer in the nutrition guidelines in the Source and am now planning to incorporate the principles into a lifelong eating strategy.
Thanks for a great book,

I am glad to hear both you and your wife are doing well.
I would like your opinion or anyones actually-could you participate in the 21-day plan and not lose weight. I am naturally slim but really really need energy. This is a problem with many plans as it is such an epidemic right now, so I do understand.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
